This book is unusual in many ways. First of all, the antagonist is none other than one of the greatest criminal masterminds in the world. The thing is, he is 12 years old. His name is Artemis Fowl, and he even has a bodyguard. The book is basically about a civilization of extremely well hidden underground fairies. Except these aren't stereotypical fairies that float around and are harmless and minuscule. Their technology is decades ahead of humans' and they have high tech weapons in addition to lots of magic. Soon, the fairies are discovered when Artemis Fowl steals their Fairy Book, which is basically just a book with every rule a fairy must live by. He translates the fairy language and exploits the fairies by holding one of their most elite fairy police officers hostage and telling them that he would release her under one condition: They gave him $50 Million worth of 24k gold, which Artemis new they had plenty of. I really liked the complexity of the plot, and the characters themselves were super interesting. There was also some humor mixed in too. Artemis Fowl is an A+ read which I highly recommend, now happy reading!
